Organic
Cotton and Your Baby
A newborn will spend more then half of his/her time
sleeping, or in sleep-related clothing. Babies wearing
conventional cotton apparel are regularly exposed to
Formaldehyde vapors that are continually released by
the apparel.
Babies wearing organic cotton apparel are not exposed
to Formaldehyde, chlorine bleach, resins, or waxes.
How safe are the common dyes used
in baby apparel?
The chemical dyes used to colour cotton fabric can contain
heavy metals, which pollute water, and have environmental
repercussions. A number of commonly used fabric finishes
can also be unhealthy.
The dyes used on conventional cotton also add more toxins
to the clothing thus adding to the fumes a baby breathes
when wearing these items.
What are Low Impact Dyes?
We believes that colour is an important part to your
child's development and takes pride in producing colourful
clothing that is healthy for your baby, using all natural
low-impact dyes.
Low-impact dyes are specially selected for the lowest
environmental impact, reducing water and electricity
consumption and discharging far less into the waste
stream.
There are no harmful affluent, no toxins, and everything
used in producing the colored fabrics is biodegradable.
These natural colours are a wonderful and responsible
way to brighten your baby's wardrobe.
Why Organic Cotton?
Cultivation
of cotton begins with hand picked cotton, free of chemicals
and pesticides. This prevents allergies from your skin
while at the same time protects workers and the environment.
Right after the harvest, the cotton is spun and manufactured
mechanically free of any chemicals. This reduces the
shrinkage to 4% and leaves the garments feeling softer
on your skin.
As Egyptian cotton has very long fibers, it can be manufactured
into especially soft fabrics, which in return translates
into extremely gentle, comfortable, long wearing clothing
for your child.
The dyeing process; as a matter of principal no organic
textiles are bleached. Some are left in the natural
creamy tone of the raw cotton. However, as clothes also
express joy of life and natural individuality, coloured
textiles complete their collection.
The dyeing of the yarn or the material is done with
metal free colors, not containing any harmful chemicals.
Their aim during the dyeing process is to use only such
agents and processes that are environmentally sound
and, at the same time, ensure the high quality standard.
All the textiles that they use are evenly dyed and do
not fade out even after heavy use and many washes.
In order to get the very soft and tender material for
our collections; the cotton yarn is handled with great
care during the knitting or weaving process. All auxiliaries
used, must either be recyclable or be biodegradable
to at least 90%. For example, for the weaving process
only natural starch is used.
During the entire process of dyeing and finishing they
take great care to only use such methods, which do not
affect the natural features of the cotton like its high
respiration activity, which is very important to your
child's skin.
All accessories like buttons and zippers are made of
organically friendly elements such as wood, shell or
nickel-free metals.
They naturally complete the process according to the
needs of the workers. Not only do they take pride in
using organic cotton, but they are also honored to produce
their product responsibly for the environment and their
workers.
There,
the manufacturer has built a community based on healthy
living for both the workers and the environment. On
the premises there is a schoolhouse for the workers'
children, a hospital, and a cafeteria that serves three
free organic meals a day.
A holistic approach is practiced in every day life and
in working activities. They believe that natural apparel
for babifes & children should start from the under
to the outer garments, Therefore this collection of
baby's and children's apparel starts with the basic
essentials such as underwear and undershirts.
In the end, you the consumer purchase a soft, durable,
chemical-free garment that is safe for you, while at
the same time you are helping in the protection of our
environment.
Certified organic: which means that the raw cotton meets
strict standards set forth by the government and private
certification boards that reguraly inspect their farms.
How to care for your Nappies
Storage of soiled nappies - either store nappies in
a dry pail with a little bi - carb soda or a few drops
of lavender oil or in a wet pail with a safety locking
lid. When you have a load of nappies wash them in hot
or warm water with a cholorine free washing detergent
and select a high water setting.
Nappies can be either tumble dried on normal or hot
temperature setting or line dried in direct sun. We
recommend you line dry your nappies in the sun, as the
sun will help remove any stains, leaving your nappies
bright. You may wish to throw sun-dried nappies in the
dryer for a few minutes to soften them.
We recommend using a dry nappy pail (without water)
as it is safe and easy.
Do not use any detergent with a chlorine bleach additive
as chlorine bleach will break down
the fibres and drastically shorten the life of your
nappies. Do not use fabric softener as it will affect
the absorbency of your nappies. Instead use ½
cup of vinegar in the rinse cycle if you need to soften
your nappies. |
